Thank you, Mum ♡

Thank you, Mum ♡

This year, it would be my 4th year being a Mum and I cannot believe how much I've learnt, laughed, cried, bloomed and loved. I'm not one to celebrate myself and I'm always about taking care of everyone else (#firstchildsyndrome) but this year I've learnt to love myself first and this has truly shown in my relationships with hubby and my kids and many others including sisters, mother-figures, family and friends in business.

In Celebration of Mother's Day, I'd like to take this opportunity to celebrate an inspiring line-up of Mamaprenerus. It most definitely is a riveting read, especially to all of those curious of how these amazing women came to be. Read on below as they share their journeys with us.

Thank you Mums, today we celebrate you.

Love,
Shanti xo

WE MIGHT BE TINY

Tell us about your business :)
I'm the founder & designer at We Might Be Tiny - a children's tableware brand from Melbourne, Australia. I'm an ex-(UX) user experience designer, turned entrepreneur and designer of a range of beautiful, minimalist, yet practical tableware pieces that are now loved by children in over 40 countries. We have a range of adorable placemats, dinnerware, and kitchenware – all in our signature bear, bunny & cat theme. We Might Be Tiny has won 10+ international design awards including Gold – Best Baby Feeding Product in the UK's Junior Design Awards 2020.
How/when did you start your business?
I started the business 5+ years ago while on maternity leave with my first baby. I saw a gap in the market for stylish kids tableware – and so I designed some placemats and shared them on Instagram. The placemats were hugely popular, so I grew the business as a side-hustle for 3 years until I was able to take the leap 2 years ago and work full-time in We Might Be Tiny.

How many babies do you have and how old are they now?
I've got 2 babes – Fredrik (6) and Goldie (3), who are also fabulous product testers!
Was there something your parents did when you were a kid that you swore you'd never do yourself but yet you're doing it too?
Actually, I think my parents did a pretty great job – it's not easy. Coming from a family of 5 kids we didn't get a lot (or we had to work hard for it) whereas I tend to give-in to my kids, they're quite spoilt :)

MOOVBABY

Tell us about your business :)
MOOV baby - the most beautiful, natural children's climbing equipment and furniture. We are Australian owned, grown & made. We are based in the Northern Rivers NSW. Our climbing equipment has been independently assessed and certified in Australia to both AS4685:2021 and AS8124:6 2018.
How/when did you start your business?
2017. Anxiety and a new baby started my journey. It wasn't a plan, but fate. As a new mum I was so anxious and constantly running on adrenalin trying to “protect” this little new-born babe.

And then a friend introduced me to RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers - an approach to caring for babies) which promotes independent gross motor skill development.

I was captivated. I read up. It made so much sense to me. No walkers, jumpers or other contraptions that put babies in positions they couldn't get into by themselves. No, this was about giving the space and time for babies to do it themselves.

It was such a release for me, to not feel completely responsible for everything my son did - to realise that he was actually capable of so much.

How many babies do you have and how old are they now?
One son, 4.5 years and a daughter 2 years
Was there something your parents did when you were a kid that you swore you'd never do yourself but yet you're doing it too?
Long drives - I HATED them.

Connetix Tiles x Little Wiwa

CONNETIX TILES

Tell us about your business :)
Connetix Tiles began in Perth, Australia selling quality magnetic building tiles to the world. Connetix have become a market leader due to their strong magnets, commitment to safety with riveted and ultrasonically welded tiles, use of non-toxic materials and the beautiful bevel design that offers clearer refractions. Connetix now have 7 packs on the market with another 5 packs being released over the next three months.
How/when did you start your business?
I have always been an advocate for children learning through play with quality, open ended toys so when my family friend Dave and I realised we had the combined skill set (I am a masters qualified early childhood and primary teacher and Dave is a entrepreneur with experience in mechanical engineering) to create something that would promote this we were all in! We wanted to sell products that we would feel comfortable letting both of our own children play with and know that they are learning so many skills at the same time.

How many babies do you have and how old are they now?
I have three beautiful girls, Lily is almost 9, Evie is 7 and Charlie is almost 6.
Was there something your parents did when you were a kid that you swore you'd never do yourself but yet you're doing it too?
So many that I can’t remember! I’m pretty sure I said I would never touch wine after smelling my mum’s glass once and I definitely didn’t stick to that!
Simply in 3 words, describe your experience what it's like being a Mamapreneur!
Exciting, empowering, exhausting!
What's one advice you'd give to another Mama in business?
There will always be challenges and setbacks but if you truely believe in what you are doing and have the passion for it then keep going! You’ve got this mama!

BELLA BUTTERCUP

Tell us about your business :)
Bella Buttercup was founded in 2012 by two best friends Chloe Blanchette and Jaimee Masters. Both are Mums of two, who came from New Zealand and now live bayside in Melbourne where the business is based. Bella Buttercup’s Scandinavian inspired pieces combine classic styling, high quality materials and affordability as key hallmarks of the brand. Such style and functionality reflect contemporary trends, while maintaining a timeless quality that gives each piece heirloom status.

Well known for their soft goods collection; featuring quilted Change Mats, Play Mats and Nappy Clutches as well as their Wooden Play Gyms and a great selection of toys.
How/when did you start your business?
Bella Buttercup was started while Jaimee lived in London and Chloe in Melbourne. Both women had a determination to start a business and with design backgrounds (one fashion and one interiors) the idea for Bella Buttercup was born. It was always their mission to create beautiful baby products that you don’t have to hide away from visitors and that are equal parts functional, modern and stylish.

How many babies do you have and how old are they now?
Jaimee had Austin 3 years old and Florence 3 Months old &
Chloe has Eva 7 years old and Ivy 7 Months old.
Was there something your parents did when you were a kid that you swore you'd never do yourself but yet you're doing it too?
Jaimee: The quick and easy microwave meals that we sometimes had growing up. These days it’s chicken tenders or fish fingers in the air fryer. I now understand as working parents running your own business, sometimes you just need to keep things simple for everyone’s sake!

What's one advice you'd give to another Mama in business?
Don’t expect every day to go to plan if you are juggling working from home with a little one/ones around. Learn to roll with it and celebrate the wins when you achieve things, but equally don’t be too hard on yourself when you don’t.

heydoodle

HEY DOODLE

Tell us about your business :)
HeyDoodle is a reusable silicone drawing mat designed to stimulate our little ones with educational and creative designs. Best of all, a damp cloth and wipe will refresh the canvas so it's ready to go again. We are proudly run by mums here in Melbourne.
How/when did you start your business?
With 2 young children and being perpetually on-the-go, I was looking for alternative ways to entertain them. This idea of an erasable mat that was lightweight and reusable felt full of potential so I took a chance at it. In November 2019 we launched the first range through a series of fundraisers with the toy libraries. In April 2020, I was made redundant from my day job as an architect and decided it was a blessing in disguise to push me full force into HeyDoodle. Now we're in 2021 and charging full steam ahead. That is until bubba 3 comes and I am forced to shift my focus temporarily :)

How many babies do you have and how old are they now?
2 and 1 brewing :) 5 and 3yrs currently.

Life as a new mum is as much about taking it one day at a time as it is about inviting the essential baby accessories into your life that will help you ease into this exciting new chapter. At Cushii® our mission is to help modern day parents juggle the first few years with their tiny human.

Our purpose is to provide premium and sustainable baby products that are functional and kind to our planet. The future of our world feels more important than ever. We are committed to ensuring we use recycled and sustainable materials that can be reused. Launching with the Cushii® lounger, our portable and lightweight pod was designed to help parents 'rock the daily juggle with their tiny human'.
How/when did you start your business?
Launching Cushii and the crazy adventure that’s gone with it has been a little over 3 long years in the making. I started work on my first prototype just after the birth of my first bub Benji after discovering a gap in the market after looking for a portable solution to comfort and cradle him while I got things done around the house. I was searching for something that was super lightweight, easy to move around, and was kind to our planet. I struggled to find something that ticked all the boxes.

How many babies do you have and how old are they now?
I’m a mum of two tiny humans, Benji (4) and Ava (2), and step mum to 2 bigger humans, Oscar (15) and Luca (13).

Was there something your parents did when you were a kid that you swore you'd never do yourself?
Yes everyday! Too many to list 🤣.

BILY

BILY

Tell us about your business :)
BILY is the abbreviation for Baby I Love You. BILY is a Korean premium baby and toddler fabric brand with comfort & beautiful pram liners, bibs & bonnets, bedding, hair accessories and more. We are based in Melbourne but we ship worldwide. It will be a great addition to your little one's wardrobe, to ensure comfort, warmth, and last but not least, Style!
How/when did you start your business?
I am also a Mother of an 19 month old daughter named Kyla.⁣ ⁣During my pregnancy, I did a lot of research to find premium and quality baby clothing and accessories (as we all did! 🙂).⁣ ⁣ If you are already familiar with Korean made products, such as clothing, skincare etc, you would know how good the quality of Korean product is!⁣ ⁣

During my research, I came across BILY, a Korean Baby clothing and accessories brand⁣ and was pleasantly surprised by the quality fabric and range of modern designs, throughout their product range. I also loved the fact that they have created a multipurpose pram liner, which I am yet to find available within Australia.⁣ ⁣
All of my 'Mum' friends would constantly asked where I was getting these gorgeous products from, and therefore came the idea to bring BILY to Australia!⁣ ⁣ As you can imagine, the buying part was mine (and Kyla's!) favourite task, ensuring each design was carefully and thoughtfully selected for the Australian range.⁣ ⁣

Don't get me wrong, it was very tricky starting my own business with a 4 month year old at home, however once I got started, I just could not stop!⁣ ⁣ I am so thrilled to be able to be the sole operator of BILY baby clothing and accessories here in Australia, and I hope you enjoy them just as much as I do!⁣ ⁣

Love from the BABY I LOVE YOU - BILY

How many babies do you have and how old are they now?
I have one daughter named Kyla who is 19months old. She is chubby which I Love it so much 😍

Lynnette Alston Photography

LYNNETTEALSTON PHOTOGRAPHY

Tell us about your business :)
I am family and portraits photographer based in South East Melbourne. Lover of natural light and tones, my style of photography creates natural, relaxed and timeless memories to be loved for years to come.
How/when did you start your business?
In the midst of lockdown 2020, I gave birth to my second child and became a mum of two. With no where to go, no one to see in lockdown/(s) I found myself gravitating towards our camera to capture all the little moments of parenthood, sisterhood and relationships with my little family. I have been a hobby photographer for years having worked in a creative industry for over 10 years, it was with the encouragement of family and friends that I finally took the plunge this year to realise my family & portrait photography business.

How many babies do you have and how old are they now?
I have two little girls. Fun fact: They coincidentally share the same birthday. (haha!) 3 years old and 9 months.

Was there something your parents did when you were a kid that you swore you'd never do yourself?
My parents kept life as a child fairly interesting but I did spend a big amount of time growing up in the company of my nanny and grandparents as both my parents worked. I swore I would spend as much time as I can with my children before they started school, but I now understand how important childhood education is and to have the support and resource to better provide for your child is something that I didn't fully appreciate until now.
Simply in 3 words, describe your experience what it's like being a Mamapreneur!
Fulfilling. Challenging. Exciting.
What's one advice you'd give to another Mama in business?
I read a great article recently and a quote in the piece really stood out to me. "Instead of determining your business worth, determine your self-worth" This is how your customers will see the true value of your business.

Little Wiwa®️

Tell us about your business :)

Little Wiwa®️ crafts award-winning play mats for the minimalists. They are homed globally with over 20,000 minimalist style lovers since and continue to receive a growing support from the eco-conscious community.

Every Little Wiwa®️ Play Mat is a premium eco-friendly luxury, sourced and created from 100% sustainable and non-toxic TPU foam. Most importantly, it is non-toxic; free from PVC, BPA and toxic chemicals, in order to provide a product that is safe for babies, adult and the environment.

How/when did you start your business?
It all began in 2016, when 4.5-month-old Vinnie showed signs of crawling and I was looking for the most practical and minimalist solution. After much research, not only could I not find any that suits, I also learnt the dangers of PVC toy products and the risks it could impose on our health. Being a Food Scientist in my earlier career, I understood the biological toxicity this imposes. Since then, there was no turning back - there was absolutely no compromise in my baby’s safety. This was the seed of aspirations for Little Wiwa and the rest was history.

How many babies do you have and how old are they now?
Vinnie is 4.5yo and Louis is 2.5yo.
Perfect age gap and they are obsessed with each other!
Was there something your parents did when you were a kid that you swore you'd never do yourself but yet you're doing it too?
My mum's never ending questions - "have you gone to the toilet?"
